Big Bend National Park
OverviewDuring five visits to the state park, students found that there was a need for some type of shelter for visitors. With the help of the Department of Wildlife and ranch employees, the student projects involved building three shelters to blend into the dessert environment.
The shelters became a reality, and now park visitors are able to get out of the rain or escape the hot dessert sun when picnicking. The shelters are also used by visitors and ranch hands for the chuck wagon barbecues during the ranch cattle drives.
